Epsom is a town located in the borough of Epsom and Ewell in Surrey, England. It is situated approximately 14 miles south of central London. The settlement's history dates back to the mid-Bronze Age, though the modern town likely developed around St Martin's Church during the 6th or 7th centuries.
The name Epsom was first recorded as Ebesham in the 10th century and is believed to originate from a Saxon landowner. While its street pattern became established during the Middle Ages, the town's High Street is currently characterized by a clock tower erected between 1847 and 1848.
