Datchet is a village and civil parish located in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead in Berkshire, England. Situated on the north bank of the River Thames, it was historically part of Buckinghamshire and the Stoke Hundred before being transferred to Berkshire under the Local Government Act 1972.
The village developed primarily due to its proximity to Windsor and a ferry service that once connected it to the main London Road across the river. This ferry service was eventually replaced by a road bridge at the foot of High Street, which has been rebuilt three times. The area is also characterized by significant infrastructure, including a rail bridge approaching Windsor across the river as well as additional road bridges located above and below the village.
