Chertsey is a town located in the Borough of Runnymede in Surrey, England. It is situated approximately 18 miles (29 km) south-west of central London.
The settlement developed around Chertsey Abbey, which was founded by St Erkenwald in AD 666. The town later received a market charter from Henry I and saw the construction of its first bridge across the River Thames in the early 15th century.
