Broadstairs is a coastal town located on the Isle of Thanet in the Thanet district of east Kent, England. Situated approximately 80 miles (130 km) east of London, it lies between the towns of Margate and Ramsgate. The town is part of the civil parish of Broadstairs and St Peter's, which also includes the village of St Peter's.
As one of Thanet's seaside resorts, Broadstairs is often referred to as the "jewel in Thanet's crown." Its name originates from a former flight of steps in the chalk cliff that once connected the sands to an 11th-century shrine of St Mary located on the cliff's summit. The town's coat of arms features the Latin motto Stella Maris.
