Bethnal Green is an area located in east London, England, within the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. It forms part of the East End and originated as a small settlement developed around "the Green," much of which remains today as Bethnal Green Gardens situated beside Cambridge Heath Road.
Historically, by the 16th century, the term applied to a broader rural area known as the Hamlet of Bethnal Green. Over time, this area evolved into a Parish and later a Metropolitan Borough before eventually merging with neighboring regions to become the north-western portion of the current Tower Hamlets borough.
