Basingstoke is a town located in Hampshire, south-central England. It is situated across a valley at the source of the River Loddon on the western edge of the North Downs. The town serves as the largest settlement in Hampshire that does not hold city status.
Geographically, Basingstoke is positioned approximately 48 miles south-west of London and 30 miles north-east of Southampton. It lies roughly 20 miles north-east of Winchester, which served as the county town and former capital. As of the 2021 population estimate, the town had a population of 107,642.
The town is part of the borough of Basingstoke and Deane and falls within the parliamentary constituency of Basingstoke.
