Barnard Castle is a market town located in County Durham, England. It is situated on the north bank of the River Tees.
The town was named after and constructed around a ruined medieval castle. A notable local landmark is the Bowes Museum, which houses an 18th-century Silver Swan automaton as well as paintings by El Greco and Goya.
