Ashton-under-Lyne, also known as Ashton, is a market town located in the Metropolitan Borough of Tameside within Greater Manchester, United Kingdom. Situated on the north bank of the River Tame in the foothills of the Pennines, it lies approximately six miles east of Manchester.
Historically, the town was part of Lancashire. According to the 2021 census, Ashton-under-Lyne had a population of 48,604 residents.
