Alfreton is a town and civil parish located in the Amber Valley district of Derbyshire, England. Historically, the area functioned as a Norman Manor and later served as an Urban District.
According to the 2021 census, the population of the Alfreton parish was 8,799. The town is associated with several surrounding villages, including Ironville, Riddings, Somercotes, and Swanwick, which were historically part of the Manor and Urban District; these areas had a combined population of 24,476 in 2001.
