Oyem is a city located in northern Gabon within the Woleu-Ntem region. Also known by its Fang name Nkoum Ekiègn, it serves as the capital of both the Woleu Department and the Woleu-Ntem Province. The city is situated on a plateau in the country's northern interior and lies along the N2 road, which connects Libreville to the Cameroonian border at Kyé-Ossi.
According to the 2013 general census, Oyem had a population of 60,685 inhabitants. It is ranked as the fifth most populous urban commune in Gabon, following Libreville, Port-Gentil, Franceville, and Owendo.
