Franceville is a city located in southeastern Gabon that serves as the capital of the Haut-Ogooué Province. It is situated on the east bank of the Ogooué River, positioned just south of its confluence with the Mpassa river.
The city functions as a major transportation hub, marking the eastern terminus for both the Trans-Gabon Railway and the Transgabonaise road corridor that runs east from Libreville. According to the 2013 general population and housing census, Franceville had a population of 110,568, making it the third-largest commune in Gabon following Port-Gentil and Libreville.
