Foix is a commune located in the Occitanie region of southwestern France. It serves as the seat of the prefecture for the department of Ariège. Historically, the city functioned as the capital of the County of Foix.
Geographically, Foix is situated south of Toulouse and lies near the borders of Spain and Andorra. It holds the distinction of being the second least populous French departmental capital, surpassed only by Privas.
