Parthenay

Parthenay is an ancient fortified town and commune located in the Deux-Sèvres department of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in western France. It serves as the sub-prefecture of the Parthenay arrondissement.

The town is situated on a rocky spur and is bordered on two sides by the River Thouet. Its historical character is defined by its status as a fortified settlement within this geographical landscape.
