Bordeaux is a port city located on the river Garonne in the Gironde department of southwestern France. It serves as the capital of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region and functions as the prefecture of the Gironde department.
The inhabitants of the city are known as Bordelais (masculine) or Bordelaises (feminine). The term Bordelais can also be used to refer to both the city itself and its surrounding region.
