Amiens is a city and commune located in northern France, situated approximately 120 kilometers north of Paris and 100 kilometers southwest of Lille. It serves as the prefecture of the Somme department within the Hauts-de-France region. As of 2023, the city has a population of 136,449 inhabitants.
The city is home to several notable landmarks and institutions, including Amiens Cathedral, which is recognized as the largest Gothic cathedral in France. Additionally, Amiens hosts one of the largest university hospitals in the country, featuring a capacity of 1,200 beds. The city is also known as the birthplace of current French president Emmanuel Macron and was the residence of author Jules Verne from 1871 until his death in 1905.
