Vire is a town located in the Calvados department within the Normandy region of northwestern France. It historically functioned as an independent commune before administrative changes occurred in the early 21st century.
On January 1, 2016, Vire was officially merged into the new commune of Vire Normandie. The town remains a recognized locality within this expanded administrative territory.
