Auxerre is a city located in France and serves as the capital (prefecture) of the Yonne department. It is situated within the Burgundy historical region, positioned southeast of Paris.
The city is the fourth-largest in its historical region. While the population of Auxerre itself is approximately 35,000, the surrounding urban area comprises roughly 111,000 inhabitants. Residents of the city are known as Auxerrois.
