Melun is a commune located in the Seine-et-Marne department within the Île-de-France region of north-central France. Situated on the southeastern outskirts of Paris, it lies approximately 41 kilometres from the capital's centre.
The city serves as the prefecture of the Seine-et-Marne department and functions as the seat of one of its arrondissements. Residents of Melun are known as Melunais.
