Svinoy

Faroe Islands

Svínoy is an island located in the north-east of the Faroe Islands. It is situated to the east of the islands of Borðoy and Viðoy.

The name Svínoy originates from the Old Norse word Svíney, which translates to "Swine Isle." Additionally, the term Svinoy refers to a specific section of the ocean where North Atlantic water flows into the Norwegian Sea. The island shares a similar name with Swona, an island located in the Orkney Islands.
