Pingelap is an atoll located in the Pacific Ocean as part of the Pohnpei State of the Federated States of Micronesia. The atoll consists of three islands—Pingelap Island, Sukoru, and Daekae—which are linked by a reef system surrounding a central lagoon. While the entire system covers a land area of 1.8 km² at high tide, only Pingelap Island is inhabited.
The atoll measures less than 2.5 miles (4.0 km) at its widest point and is home to approximately 250 residents. Most of the population speaks Pingelapese, which is the atoll's own distinct language.
