Kapingamarangi is an atoll and municipality located in the state of Pohnpei within the Federated States of Micronesia. It is geographically distinct as a Polynesian outlier, situated significantly to the south of other islands in the region.
The atoll is by far the most southerly landmass in both the country and the Caroline Islands. It is positioned approximately 300 km (190 mi) south of the next nearest atoll, Nukuoro, and roughly 740 km (460 mi) southwest of the main island of Pohnpei state.
