Kotka is a town located on the southeastern coast of Finland at the mouth of the Kymi River. It serves as a significant population center within the Kymenlaakso region.

The municipality has a population of approximately 50,000 residents. In terms of national demographics, Kotka ranks as the 21st most populous municipality in Finland and the 16th most populous urban area in the country.
