East Helsinki is an area located within the city of Helsinki, Finland, situated in the Uusimaa region. Although the name "East Helsinki" does not appear in the city's official regional nomenclature, it is a designation created by the local residents to describe the eastern and south-eastern major districts of the city.
The area typically comprises several districts, including Vartiokylä, Myllypuro, Mellunkylä, Vuosaari, Herttoniemi, Laajasalo, and Kulosaari. With the exception of Kulosaari, most buildings in these districts were constructed from the 1960s onward. The region is characterized by relatively densely inhabited suburbs, though the southern part of Laajasalo and most of Kulosaari remain less dense. East Helsinki is geographically separated from "South Helsinki" (Helsinki Downtown) by a bridge located to the west of Kulosaari.
