Adigrat is a city and independent woreda located in the Tigray Region of Ethiopia. Situated within the Misraqawi Zone at an elevation of 2,457 metres (8,061 ft), the city lies below a high ridge to its west. It currently serves as the capital of the Eastern Tigray zone.
The city is recognized as a strategically important gateway providing access to Eritrea and the Red Sea. Historically, Adigrat was part of the Ganta Afeshum woreda before it was established as its own separate administrative woreda.
