Gedo

Ethiopia

Gedo is an administrative region, known as a gobol, located in Jubaland in southern Somalia. Its regional capital is Garbahaarreey. The region was formed in 1974 and shares borders with the Ogaden in Ethiopia to the west, the North Eastern Province of Kenya to the north, and several Somali regions—including Bakool, Bay, Jubbada Dhexe, and Jubbada Hoose—to the east.

The southern sections of Gedo, situated west of the Jubba River, were historically part of the British Trans-Juba region during a portion of the colonial era between 1890 and 1960. This specific territory was the site of two separate conflicts between British and Italian forces.
