Lalibela

Ethiopia

Lalibela is a town situated in the Lasta district of the North Wollo Zone within Ethiopia's Amhara Region. It serves as an important site for the study of antiquity, medieval, and post-medieval civilizations in Ethiopia.

The town is primarily known as a significant tourist destination for its famous rock-cut monolithic churches. These structures are noted for being designed in contrast to earlier monolithic churches found elsewhere in the country. For many Christians, Lalibela is considered one of the holiest cities in Ethiopia and remains a major center of pilgrimage.
