Asaita

Ethiopia

Asaita, also known by its Amharic name Asayəta or Afar name Aysaqiita, is a town located in northeastern Ethiopia. Historically referred to as Aussa (Awsa), the settlement serves as a significant point within the country's geographic landscape.

The town is situated in the Afambo woreda, which is part of the Awsi Rasu zone. It sits at an elevation of 300 metres (980 ft) with coordinates of 11°34′N 41°26′E. Until 2007, Asaita served as the capital of Ethiopia's Afar Region.
