Badajoz is the capital city of the province of Badajoz, located within the autonomous community of Extremadura in western Spain. It is situated on the left bank of the Guadiana River and lies in close proximity to the border with Portugal.
As of 2011, the city had a recorded population of 151,565 residents. It serves as a primary administrative center for its namesake province.
