Vilanova i la Geltru

Spain

Vilanova i la Geltrú is the capital city of the Garraf comarca, located in the province of Barcelona within the Catalonia region of Spain. The city is situated approximately 40 km southwest of Barcelona and lies about 10 km southwest of the coastal resort of Sitges.

The urban layout of Vilanova i la Geltrú resulted from the historical aggregation of two distinct centers: the medieval center of La Geltrú and the area built outside the medieval walls known as Vilanova. Historically, the lands associated with Vilanova originally belonged to the neighboring town of Cubelles.

The city currently maintains a growing population of approximately 66,000 residents. It serves as a significant regional hub within its province while maintaining its historical roots in the medieval settlement patterns of the area.
