Sant Cugat del Vallès is a municipality and town located in the Catalonia region of Spain. It is situated northwest of Barcelona, positioned on the opposite side of the Collserola mountain range. The name "del Vallès" refers to the historical county where the town is located.
The settlement has various historical designations, having been known as Castrum Octavianum in antiquity and Pins del Vallès during the Second Spanish Republic. It is named after Saint Cucuphas, who is traditionally said to have been martyred on the site currently occupied by its medieval monastery.
