The Eixample is a district located in Barcelona, within the Catalonia region of Spain. It was constructed during the 19th and early 20th centuries to bridge the space between the old city and the surrounding small towns that once existed outside the urban center.
According to the last census conducted in 2005, the district had a population of 262,000 residents. It serves as a primary residential and urban area situated between the historic core and the outer reaches of the city.
