Ávila is the capital and most populated municipality of the Province of Ávila, situated within the autonomous community of Castile and León in Spain. Located in the central part of the Iberian Peninsula to the north of the Sistema Central, the city sits on the right bank of the Adaja river.
The city is notable for its high elevation, reaching over 1,130 metres (3,710 ft) above sea level. Due to this geography, it holds the distinction of being the highest provincial capital in Spain.
