Salamanca is a municipality and city located in the autonomous community of Castile and León in western-central Spain. It serves as the capital of the Province of Salamanca and is situated on the northern half of the Meseta Central, straddling the Tormes river. The city is attached to the comarca of Campo Charro and had a population of 144,458 in 2024, ranking it as the 46th-largest municipality in the country.
The city is notable for its historical significance and educational heritage. It is home to the University of Salamanca, which was founded in 1218 and is recognized as one of the oldest universities in Western Europe.
