Sharm el-Sheikh is an Egyptian city situated on the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula within the South Sinai Governorate. It is located along the coastal strip of the Red Sea in Asia. As of 2017, the city had a population of approximately 77,000 residents.
The city serves as the administrative hub for the South Sinai Governorate. This region encompasses several smaller coastal towns, including Dahab and Nuweiba, as well as the mountainous interior areas of St. Catherine and Mount Sinai.
