Girga, also known by the names Digirga, Digurga, or Jirjā, is a city located in the Sohag Governorate of Upper Egypt. It is situated on the west bank of the Nile River.
The city holds significant historical and religious importance as it is recognized as the oldest continuously inhabited city on the African continent. Additionally, Girga serves as the metropolitan see of the Coptic Orthodox Church.
