Esna is a city located in Egypt on the west bank of the Nile River. It is situated approximately 55 kilometers (34 miles) south of the city of Luxor.
Historically, the city was part of the Qena Governorate. However, as of December 9, 2009, Esna was officially incorporated into the newly formed Luxor Governorate.
