Damietta is a port city located in Egypt that serves as the capital of the Damietta Governorate. It is situated at the Damietta branch, which is an eastern distributary of the Nile Delta, approximately 15 kilometres from the Mediterranean Sea and about 200 kilometres north of Cairo.
Historically, the city served as a Catholic bishopric and remains a multiple titular see. In 2019, Damietta became a member of the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities.
