Tanta is a city located in Egypt, situated between the major cities of Cairo and Alexandria. It lies approximately 94 km (58 mi) north of Cairo and 130 km (81 mi) southeast of Alexandria.
As the capital of the Gharbia Governorate, Tanta is one of the most populous urban centers in the country, with a recorded population of 530,000 in 2024. The city serves as a significant industrial hub, specifically recognized as a center for the cotton-ginning industry.
