Edku is a town located in the Beheira Governorate of Egypt. It sits on a sandy strip behind Abi Qir Bay in the northwestern Nile River delta, positioned east of Alexandria and west of Rashid along the Mediterranean coast.
The town is situated near Lake Idku, a 58-square-mile (150-square-km) lagoon that runs parallel to the coastline. The lagoon is drained by the Al-Madiyyah Channel into the Mediterranean Sea and is traditionally identified as the ancient Canopic branch of the Nile. Due to its location on an isthmus, Edku serves as a hub for fisheries from both the lake and the sea, while also supporting industries such as silk weaving and rice milling.
Edku is accessible via coastal roads and railways connecting it to Alexandria, located 26 miles (42 km) to the west-southwest, and Rosetta, situated 12 miles (19 km) to the northeast.
