Yanacocha is an open pit gold mine located in the Cajamarca region of the Northern Highlands of Peru. The site covers a 251-square kilometer area situated approximately 30 kilometers north of the city of Cajamarca, straddling a high pampa watershed.
Recognized as the fourth largest gold mine in the world, Yanacocha produced 0.97 million ounces of gold in 2014. While it was previously a joint venture between Newmont Goldcorp, Compañia de Minas Buenaventura, and the International Finance Corporation, the mine has been 100% owned and operated by Newmont since 2022.
