Veracruz, officially known as the Free and Sovereign State of Veracruz de Ignacio de la Llave, is one of the 32 federal entities of Mexico. It is located in eastern Mexico and shares borders with seven other states: Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosí, Hidalgo, Puebla, Oaxaca, Chiapas, and Tabasco.
The state is divided into 212 municipalities. Its capital city is Xalapa-Enríquez.
