Tosagua is a city located in the northwestern region of Manabí Province, Ecuador. It serves as the seat of the Tosagua Canton, which covers an area of 381.6 square kilometers and functions as the geographical axis for the northern part of the province. The city is situated along the Carrizal River.
The name of the city originates from the native tribe known as the Tosahuas. It was officially founded as a county on January 20, 1984, following approval by Congress and the president of the republic, Osvaldo Hurtado Larrea. The city currently houses the main institutions and organizations for the Tosagua council and has a population of approximately 11,317.
