Bahía de Caráquez, officially known as San Antonio de Caraquez, is a coastal city located in the Sucre county of the Manabí province in Ecuador. Situated on a sandy peninsula along the country's western coast at the mouth of the Río Chone, the city is positioned approximately one hour north of Manta. It sits across the bay from the town of San Vicente.
The city serves as a major regional hub with significant tourism infrastructure, primarily serving as a vacation destination for residents of Quito and Guayaquil. While it has experienced substantial development over the last 15 to 20 years, the area also holds historical significance as the site of the ancient pre-Columbian Indian city of Caran.
