Atacames is a beach town and surrounding canton situated on the northern Pacific coast of Ecuador. It is located within the province of Esmeraldas, approximately 30 kilometers southwest of the provincial capital, which shares the same name.
As of 2022, the population of Atacames town was recorded at 18,948, while the broader canton had a population of 51,204. The area is notable for having one of the lowest poverty rates in the province of Esmeraldas.
