Latacunga is a plateau city located in Ecuador. It serves as the capital of the Cotopaxi Province and is situated approximately 89 km (55 mi) south of the national capital, Quito.
The city is positioned near the confluence of the Alaquez and Cutuchi rivers, which form the Patate river, a headstream of the Pastaza. As of the 2022 census, Latacunga had a population of 77,267 residents, with a demographic composition that is largely mestizo and indigenous.
