Mira

Mira is a binary star system located in the constellation Cetus. It is identified by the Bayer designation Omicron Ceti, which can be abbreviated as Omicron Cet or ο Cet.

The system consists of a white dwarf companion and a pulsating variable red giant known as Mira A. As the prototype for Mira variables, Mira A was the first non-supernova variable star discovered, with the possible exception of Algol. The entire system is situated at a distance of approximately 300 light-years from Earth.
