Aïn Salah, commonly known as In Salah, is an oasis town situated in the heart of the Sahara Desert in central Algeria. It serves as the capital of both the In Salah Province and the In Salah District. The name of the settlement translates to "good well."
Historically, the town functioned as a significant trade link along the trans-Saharan caravan routes. As of the 2008 census, Aïn Salah had a population of 32,518, reflecting an annual growth rate of 1.5%, which is the lowest recorded in the province.
