Khenchela is the capital city of the Khenchela Province (Wilaya) located in the northeastern region of Algeria. It is situated within the Aures Mountains at an elevation of approximately 1,200 meters above sea level.
The city is primarily inhabited by the Berber Chaouis people. It serves as a regional center for its namesake province.
