Berriane is a medium-sized town and commune located in the southern region of Algeria. It is situated in the northern Sahara desert, specifically within the extreme north of the Ghardaïa Province (wilaya). The town is coextensive with the Bérianne District and lies approximately 554 kilometres south of Algiers and 43 kilometres north of Ghardaïa City.
The municipality occupies a total area of 2.250 km2. According to the 2008 census, Berriane had a population of 30,200 residents, reflecting an annual growth rate of 2.0% from the previous census in 1998.
