El Kala is a seaport located in the El Tarf Province of Algeria. It is situated approximately 56 miles (90 km) east of Annaba by rail and lies about 10 miles (16 km) west of the Tunisian frontier.
The city serves as a primary hub for the coral fisheries of both Algeria and Tunisia, and it maintains an extensive industry dedicated to curing sardines. The local harbor is characterized by its small size and exposure to winds coming from the northeast and west.
